As the candidate filing period has come to a close in Arkansas, Baxter County ended up with a total of six races in its government.
The biggest field is for District 11 on the Baxter County Quorum Court as four Republicans look to succeed current Justice of the Peace Ty Chapman, who is not running for reelection. Ezra Roberts, Toney Brasuell, Eric Payne and Carla Dennis will square off during the March primary. The winner will take the seat the following year with no opponent in November.
Three candidates are running to become the new JP in District 2. Mike McDonald and Daniel K. Carey will seek the Republican nomination in March, and the winner will face Democrat Johnny Rickman in the general election. Current JP Angela DeGroote is not seeking reelection.
District 7 JP Charles Osgood is running for another term. He’ll face Bob Nault in the Republican primary, and the winner will take on Democrat Derek Huber next November.
Rick Steiner is another incumbent who will face a challenger. The current Republican JP for District 3 will go up against Democratic candidate Donnie Huffine in the general election.
Lisa House and Mark Medley will face each other in the Republican primary for JP in District 6. The victor will go on to take the seat since there will be no opponent next November. House and Medley are looking to succeed Tink Albright, a candidate for District 4 in the Arkansas House of Representatives.
All other JP candidates are Republicans running unopposed. Eddie Griffin will join the quorum court for District 8 in 2025 as he replaces Roger Steele, who did not file for reelection. He’ll be joined by incumbents Dennis Frank in District 1, Dirk Waldrop in District 4, Maryanne Edge in District 5, Camereon Davis in District 9 and Shannon Walker in District 10.
Baxter County also has one constable’s race. Douglas Stephens, Jeromy Weaver and Jamie Binnion will seek the Republican nomination for District 1 in March, and the winner will not have opposition in the general election.
All other constable candidates will run unopposed as Republicans. The list includes Nathan Horn in District 2, Kaleb Johnson in District 3, Julie Little in District 4, Bradley Beard in District 5, Ryan Beasley in District 6, Cade Seal in District 7, Tyler Brown in District 8, Billy Cox in District 9, Ronald Weaver in District 10 and Frankie Baker in District 11.
