May precipitation totals above average


The month of May didn’t set any records with a total rainfall of 8.96 inches recorded at KTLO, Classic Hits 101.7 and The Boot, the official weather reporting station in Mountain Home for the National Weather Service. The area did see above normal precipitation, however. Average rainfall for May is 4.85 inches. The wettest May on record was in 1946 when 11.87 inches fell.

The driest May on record was in 1969 when the area saw just .36 of an inch. The Twin Lakes Area last month saw 12 days of precipitation with the fourth having the most at 2.61 inches.May didn’t set any temperature records. The warmest days were tied at 84 degrees on the ninth, 11th and the 17th. The hottest May day recorded was 101 degrees on May 31st in 1934.The lowest temperature of the month was on the fifth when the thermometer fell to 43 degrees. The lowest temperature recorded for May is 29 degrees and happened on the first in 1903.

No snow was recorded for May this year. The Twin Lakes Area has seen one snowfall in May since record keeping began in 1819. May fourth of 2013 had a trace amount.
