In a meeting lasting less than a half hour, the Baxter County Quorum Court went through routine business items during its regular August session. Matt Sharp has the details.
Listen:
All items voted on by the quorum court were unanimously approved. The court appropriated $12,700 in fees and reimbursements to the sheriff’s office budget, $200,000 from the road and bridge fund to the road and bridge department budget, $10,000 from the Arkansas Division of Emergency Management to the county’s Office of Emergency Management budget, $500 from the county general fund to the assessor’s office budget, $20,600 from the circuit court automation fund to the building and grounds budget and $50,000 from the county general fund to the building and grounds budget.
The court also authorized Baxter County Judge Kevin Litty to apply for a pair of grants from the Arkansas Rural Development Commission. One grant is for $14,413 to allow the Cotter-Gassville Rural Fire Protection District to purchase equipment. The other grant will seek $15,000 toward renovation and repairs to the Galatia Community Building.
The next resolution approved by the quorum court is the update to the Baxter County Hazard Mitigation Plan. The vote is required every five years to comply with federal hazard mitigation planning regulations.
The last two resolutions approved by the council were for the reappointments to two fire protection district boards of commissioners. Erich Wolf and Tony Chamberlain will serve three-year terms in Gamaliel expiring in August 2027, and Caryl Richards and John Bolding were also approved to three-year terms at Tracy Area to expire in June 2027.
Judge Litty had two announcements to wrap up the meeting. The quorum court’s regular November session is being moved to Nov. 4. The court doesn’t normally meet on a Monday, but Tuesday, Nov. 5, will be Election Day. The judge also announced a ribbon cutting ceremony will be held Aug. 14 at 10 for the future home of the Baxter County Health Unit at the corner of Arkansas Highway 178 and Buttercup Drive.
