Burkburnett edged Mountain Home Lockeroom 3-1 in a tightly contested pitchers’ duel Saturday at the Glen Winget Tournament.
Burkburnett struck early, scoring twice in the first inning on a two-run double by the team’s catcher, who finished the game 2-for-3 with three RBIs. He added another run in the third with a second double down the left field line, extending Burkburnett’s lead to 3-0.
Lockeroom responded with a run late but couldn’t overcome the early deficit.
Burkburnett starter #99 earned the win, tossing 6 1/3 innings and allowing just three hits and one unearned run while striking out two and issuing no walks.
Jordan Corbett took the loss for Lockeroom despite a strong outing, going the full seven innings and surrendering three runs on four hits with one strikeout and two walks.
Offensively, Lockeroom was led by Corbett, Mason Sinclair and Nate Henderson, each collecting one hit. Defensively, the team played clean, committing no errors. Henderson recorded a team-high 12 chances in the field.
