A Fulton County man, 33-year-old Christopher Mackey of Viola, has been arrested and charged with eight felony drug and weapon-related offenses, including trafficking of a controlled substance.
According to the probable cause affidavit, an officer with Arkansas Community Corrections conducted a home visit Oct. 25 at Mackey’s residence. The officer located the convicted felon in a camper on the property.
When Mackey responded to a knock and opened the door, the officer saw an individual sleeping in the camper and noticed a handgun nearby.
Backup was requested from the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office and reported Mackey was cooperative at this point, telling officers there might be a “pipe” inside, as well as broken ones he kept in a jar.
A search of the camper revealed three rifles, two muzzleloaders, a black powder pistol and a stolen firearm, belonging to the other individual in the camper. All but one of the weapons were loaded.
In addition, a liquid field testing positive for methamphetamine and weighing more than 200 grams was located, along with drug paraphernalia.
During the search, the cuffed Mackey reportedly ran into the woods and was chased for some distance. He reportedly continued to fight the officers, as they returned to the camper, including kicking and attempting to headbut them.
Mackey allegedly yelled at the officers, demanded they kill him and tried to run again.
Mackey has been charged with three felony counts of felon in possession of a firearm and use or possession with the purpose to use drug paraphernalia, along with single counts of trafficking a controlled substance (methamphetamine), simultaneous possession of drugs and firearms and use or possession with the purpose to use drug paraphernalia. He also faces misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest and use of possession with the purpose to use drug paraphernalia.
Mackey’s bond was set at $50,000.
Earlier this year, Mackey was placed on five years of supervised probation in connection with an incident after he was found with an illegal drug and paraphernalia in his vehicle when he reported to his probation officer.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Mackey went to the probation office on March 18 and was asked to submit to a urinalysis. He told the officer he was unable to provide the required sample and asked to retrieve a soda from his vehicle.
