A Mountain Home area couple was arrested late Thursday on charges of endangering the welfare of a minor. The couple, 32-year-old Desiree Marie Daniels and 36-year-old Randall Edward King, turned themselves in as an investigation into reported injuries of a child continues.

Baxter County Sheriff John Montgomery says on May 1, a 5-month-old boy was taken to Baxter Regional Medical Center by ambulance for seizures. After examination, the infant was air lifted to Arkansas Children’s Hospital in Little Rock for treatment.

A joint investigation was launched by the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, the Arkansas State Police Crimes Against Children’s Division and the Arkansas Department of Human Services. The sheriff says there are believed to be two separate traumatic events that happened to the 5-month-old victim. He adds, “Due to the ongoing active investigation, no other details are being released at this time.”

After consulting with 14th Judicial Prosecutor David Ethredge, a determination was made to charge the two adults who are the infant’s biological mother and father.

Both Daniels and King are charged with endangering the welfare of a minor in the first degree, a Class D felony. Daniels’ bond was set a $10,000, while King’s was set at $5,000. Both are free after posting bond.

The injured 5-month-old and another child at the residence were removed from the home by the Arkansas Department of Human Services.

The sheriff says this is an “active and ongoing investigation.”
