A baby, three children and two adults from Versailles are in serious condition after an SUV slammed into their horse and buggy Wednesday evening.

Troopers were called to the crash around 5:30 p.m. on Route C, east of Gracey Creek Road.

According to investigators, the driver of an SUV was traveling over the crest of a hill when the vehicle struck the buggy.

The buggy was occupied by a family that included a baby and children ages 3, 5 and 6. All six victims—the baby, three children, a man and a woman—were transported to a hospital in Columbia with serious injuries.

Authorities said the driver of the SUV sustained minor injuries in the crash.
