The St. Louis Cardinals were held scoreless Wednesday night in a 7-0 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates at Busch Stadium.

St. Louis managed just five hits in the loss and was unable to capitalize on several scoring opportunities against Pittsburgh pitching. Victor Scott II doubled in the fifth inning, but the Cardinals stranded him on base.

Michael McGreevy took the loss after allowing two early runs, including a solo home run by Spencer Horwitz in the second inning.

The Pirates added insurance runs late, including a four-run eighth inning to pull away. Bryan Reynolds delivered a two-run double during the rally.

Pittsburgh pitchers combined for the shutout, while Cardinals hitters struck out multiple times in key situations and finished the night without a run.

They will be back in action Thursday for the series finale. First pitch is set for 12:15 with pregame coverage by Ameren Total Access beginning at 11:20. Thursday’s game can be heard on KTLO AM 1240.
