A large alligator spotted swimming in a creek in Sherwood is drawing attention online after a local resident captured video of the reptile Wednesday afternoon near Trammel Road.
Sherwood resident Lukas Burrow said he noticed movement in the water while driving home from work and stopped to investigate after hearing rumors for years about alligators in the area.
Burrow said the alligator appeared to be at least 9 feet long, though some people who viewed the video estimated it may have been even larger.
According to Burrow, the creek area is heavily wooded and largely untouched, creating an ideal habitat for wildlife.
The video quickly spread online, generating widespread attention and prompting messages from people asking about the sighting.
Alligator sightings have become more common in parts of Arkansas in recent years, particularly near waterways and marsh areas during warmer months.
