Tuesday night, the Baxter County Quorum Court unanimously passed a resolution opposing the reopening of the landfill in Baxter County in the first meeting of 2023.

Steve Blumreich, President of the Friends of the North Fork and White River, shared a report from Harbor Environmental and Safety from Little Rock showing the pollutants already discovered at the site such as arsenic, manganese, barium, and mercury.

In other business, the court approved an ordinance establishing procedures for the Baxter County Quorum Court for fiscal years 2023 and 2024. Ordinances appropriating fees and revenue funds to the Baxter County Sheriff’s office budget to purchase used vehicles for transport use were also approved.

An ordinance to move funds from the county’s general fund to the Treasurer’s budget was also approved to allow for a part-time hire.

A resolution to reappoint Anita Knack to the Cotter/Gassville Rural Fire Protection District Board of Commissioners for three years was approved.

The court also approved an ordinance appointing Edward Hold to the Henderson Volunteer Fire Protection District Board of Commissioners to replace Wendy Flentge, who is unable to complete her three-year term on the Board.
