Several students from Mountain Home Public Schools have earned the Arkansas Seal of Biliteracy, a statewide recognition awarded to students who demonstrate proficiency in English and at least one additional language.

Mountain Home students receiving the honor include 11th grader Owen Campos in Portuguese; 10th grader James Michael Deles in Filipino (Tagalog); 11th grader Marie Dunkelberger in German; 10th grader Marina Gomez in Spanish; 11th grader Emma Madeheim in both French and German; 11th grader Rhiannon McNames in Spanish; 11th grader Anton Rettig in German; 11th grader Giselle Salas-Flores in Spanish; 12th grader Ian Soares in both Portuguese and Spanish; 12th grader Arthur Souza in Portuguese; and 12th grader Malgorzata Zachewicz in Polish.

1,450 students across Arkansas earned the distinction this year in 37 different languages. The Seal of Biliteracy recognizes language achievement and encourages students to develop multilingual skills that can benefit them in college admissions and future careers.

The Seal of Biliteracy has been officially endorsed by the Arkansas Department of Education since 2018 and is sponsored by the Arkansas Foreign Language Teachers Association and Arkansas Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages.
