A southeast Missouri man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole after being convicted of killing and decapitating his mother.
According to Dunklin County Prosecuting Attorney Nicholas Jain, 43-year-old Trevor John Huber of Cardwell was found guilty of first-degree murder in the death of his mother, 63-year-old Charlotte Wilson.
Judge Josh Underwood sentenced Huber to life in prison without the possibility of parole following a two-day trial held May 18-19 in Dunklin County.
Authorities said the case began Dec. 21, 2018, when the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a home in Cardwell.
Investigators said Huber sounded confused during the call. When deputies arrived, they reportedly found him naked and appearing disoriented.
According to court records, deputies entered the home and discovered Wilson decapitated inside the residence.
Investigators said Huber later admitted he believed his mother was attempting to poison him. Authorities also stated Huber told investigators he had used methamphetamine days before the killing.
During a search of the residence, investigators reportedly located Wilson’s head along with a bloody knife and hammer believed to have been used in the homicide.
Jain thanked the Dunklin County Sheriff’s Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol for their work investigating the case.
