The U.S. economy added more jobs than expected in April, according to a new report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

American employers added 115,000 jobs during the month, surpassing analyst expectations that ranged between 55,000 and 62,000 new jobs.

April marked the third month out of the first four in 2026 to show job growth. January added 160,000 jobs, while March posted gains of 185,000 after an upward revision. February, however, saw a loss of 156,000 jobs after revised figures were released.

Despite the stronger-than-expected April report, economists say hiring rates and slowing wage growth remain concerns.

Over the past 12 months, the economy has added roughly 250,000 jobs, marking the slowest pace of annual job growth in more than a decade outside of the pandemic year in 2020.
