The Baxter County Clerk’s Office is warning residents about a scam text message claiming recipients owe money for a traffic violation and must make payment immediately to avoid legal consequences.According to Baxter County Clerk and Recorder Canda Reese, the fraudulent text message is being circulated to local residents and appears to come from the “Arkansas Judicial Notice – Traffic Case Alert.”

The message claims court records show a traffic violation tied to the recipient’s driving record and instructs the person to pay through a website link. It also threatens legal action, suspension of driving privileges, vehicle registration penalties and additional fines if payment is not made.

The message includes references to a supposed case number, court hearing date and court officials in an apparent attempt to appear legitimate.

Recipients of the message should not click the link or provide any personal or financial information.

The scam message includes a web address that appears to match official Arkansas court or government payment systems but is fraudulent.

Residents receiving the message are encouraged to delete it and report it as spam through their mobile carrier. Anyone uncertain about the legitimacy of a court notice can contact the Baxter County Clerk’s office at 870-425-3475 or visit during business hours at the Baxter County Courthouse in Mountain Home.
