A 37-year-old Paragould man was arrested Tuesday following allegations that he attacked a 13-year-old girl with a hammer during a domestic disturbance, according to authorities.

Greene County District Court Judge Curtis Hitt found probable cause Wednesday to charge Robert Calhoun with aggravated assault on a family or household member, a Class D felony, and third-degree domestic battery, a Class A misdemeanor.

Corporal Tron Beesley said officers responded May 12 to a residence on South 2nd Avenue for a reported domestic disturbance where multiple witnesses described a violent confrontation.

According to witness statements, Calhoun allegedly attempted to strike the 13-year-old girl with a hammer inside the home. At that point, another man in the residence intervened and confronted Calhoun.

Beesley said the situation escalated into a physical altercation between the two men, during which the male victim sustained minor injuries to his face and lip.

Officers arrested Calhoun at the scene and transported him to the Greene County Detention Center.

He is being held on a $35,000 cash or surety bond. If released, court orders require him to have no contact with the victims or witnesses and to wear a GPS ankle monitor.

The case remains under investigation.
