
A homicide investigation is underway in Searcy County after a woman was found shot to death last Tuesday, July 22. Sheriff Kenny Cassell says the victim, 69-year-old Mona Sloop, who lived alone on Shady Grove Road, about 10 miles southeast of Marshall in a fairly remote area, was found dead in her driveway.
Cassell says they sent Sloop’s body to the Arkansas State Crime Lab in Little Rock to determine her cause of death.

Cassell says at this point, they don’t have a motive for the killing, which is the first homicide of the year in Searcy County.
The sheriff says they don’t believe there is reason for residents in Searcy County to be alarmed.
